UWM's Thomas A. Greene Geological Museum Receives International Recognition - UWM Post

The International Union of Geological Sciences Commission on Geosciences has recognized UWM’s Thomas A. Greene Geological Collection as one of the 11 most important geological collections in the world as part of its new Geo-Collection Program.

The Thomas A. Greene Geological Sciences Museum is the only museum in the U.S. to receive this recognition for its “high scientific, historical and/or educational relevance for geological sciences,” according to IUGS.

Hoan Bridge Lights up to Commemorate Indigenous Peoples’ Day

In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Potawatomi tribe members and officials gathered Monday night to watch Milwaukee’s Hoan Bridge light with the traditional colors of the medicine wheel; red, yellow, white and black.

Citizens Protest Proposed WE Energies Price Hikes

Protestors marched on Thursday afternoon in response to the new price hike proposal by WE Energies, which would mark the third price increase in the past three years.

Protesters marched down Wisconsin Avenue to make their disapproval heard in a public hearing. The proposed price hike would add around $11 monthly to residential bills in 2025. If approved, the money would go towards the current construction of two power plants along Lake Michigan.

New UW-Milwaukee Chemistry Building Opens With a Bang

UW-Milwaukee unveiled its chemistry building with a grand opening ceremony on Friday. The project cost $118 million, a six-year campaign of securing funds, design and construction.

This is the third ceremony held for this 163,400-square-foot building. First was a groundbreaking ceremony held in January of 2022 followed by a Topping Off Ceremony in January of 2023.
