Citizens Protest Proposed WE Energies Price Hikes

Protestors marched on Thursday afternoon in response to the new price hike proposal by WE Energies, which would mark the third price increase in the past three years.

Protesters marched down Wisconsin Avenue to make their disapproval heard in a public hearing. The proposed price hike would add around $11 monthly to residential bills in 2025. If approved, the money would go towards the current construction of two power plants along Lake Michigan.

New UW-Milwaukee Chemistry Building Opens With a Bang

UW-Milwaukee unveiled its chemistry building with a grand opening ceremony on Friday. The project cost $118 million, a six-year campaign of securing funds, design and construction.

This is the third ceremony held for this 163,400-square-foot building. First was a groundbreaking ceremony held in January of 2022 followed by a Topping Off Ceremony in January of 2023.

Northrop Grumman gets DARPA Grant to Develop Concepts for a Lunar Railway

The US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has recently awarded a grant to Northrop Grumman to develop concepts for a lunar railway as part of the LunA-10 program.

Pfister Hotel Historic $20 Million Renovation Enters Second Stage

Milwaukee’s Pfister Hotel is entering the second stage of a $20 million renovation that began in the summer of 2023 meant to elevate guest experience while respecting the building’s long history, according to President of Marcus Hotels & Resorts Michael Evans.

Milwaukee’s Nearly-100-year-old Hilton City Center Nominated to join the National Register of Historic Places

The Hilton City Center, formerly known as Hotel Schroeder, has been nominated by its owner, Marcus Corporation, to join the National Register of Historic Places.

The more than 25-story, 275 foot-tall Milwaukee landmark was first opened in 1928 by Walter Schroeder, and was acquired by Marcus Corporation in 1995.

Milwaukee’s Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for designating historic landmarks and historic districts by reviewing nominations for the national register.

Midwest Gaming Classic is 200K sq ft of Free-to-Play Games

Midwest Gaming Classic (MGC) is a gaming convention and trade show that features over 200,000 square feet of free-to-play retro and modern home video game consoles, pinball machines, arcade games, trading card games, tabletop board games and role-playing games.

Three UWM Professors Released Books this Month

Students tend to see their professors as regular UW-Milwaukee employees. However, they do a large amount of their work outside of school. This work can include grading papers, making test questions or preparing the next lesson plan. Outside of this work for UWM, many professors spend their free time doing scholarly research in their field. UW-Milwaukee asks faculty to serve more than just knowledge

The dining halls at UW-Milwaukee are usually staffed relatively well with student employees, however, leading up to the fall 2022 semester the dining halls were experiencing massive shortages.

Normally, 80% of the dining hall staff would be composed of returning staff from previous years, but COVID changed all that.

Through efforts in the spring and summer, they had built up about 40% of the student employees they needed to run the dining halls, but there was still that 60% unhired when the se
